Father Knows Best | Family | Portraits

I had the pleasure recently of working with a father and his beautiful three daughters.  It's sessions like this one that make what I do worth the time and effort.  The afternoon started out with dad arriving with three not so happy daughters.  You know, woken up early on a Saturday morning kinda not happy!  But it didn't take long for them to warm up to the camera and immediately they were dishing out these beautiful smiles and they afternoon ended on a high note with a jump for ice cream!  Dad should be so proud of his young ladies, and it's clear to see, he has a road ahead of him of keeping the boys at bay...Good luck!

Capturing the Person....

A lot of my time lately has been focused on portraiture. I'm really trying to find one or two niches to focus my  photography on, and the only way to do that is to try different things.  The past few months I've been learning how to use my off camera flash, flash lighting, natural light and posing to capture my human subjects at their best.  Lucky for me I have some great friends and family who have been willing subjects to humor me in my journey.  it's been an exciting few months with many hiccups along the way, but I think I may have found my niche in people and events...more time will tell.   Below are a few portraits I'm sharing as promised....

My long time friend's daughter with her beautiful little girl.  It's amazing to have watched Brittiny grow up from childhood into a mom!

My lovely niece, who prior to this photo shoot, didn't like taking pictures...now she's eager for more.  Isn't she lovely?!

One of my nephews, being patient with Auntie as she learns to use her new flash and umbrella outdoors one evening..

My lovely neighbor, helping me with a class project using natural light and focusing on the eyes..I passed!!

Long time friends twin sons. Watching these two grow up along with my son has been crazy.  They are all now in High School. From diapers to cars...uuuggh I'm getting old!

One of my cousin's who recently graduated from College...ready to take on the business world.

Clydesdales Passing Through Downtown Richmond....

Several weeks ago, I had the pleasure of seeing the famous Clydesdale horses up close and personal. While we couldn't touch them, we were able to absorb their magnificent beauty up close, and their riding dog was just adorable and a great subject for the camera.

Broad Appetit 2013...Yummy

Broad Appetit is one of the biggest food festivals in our city.   Each year thousands come out to enjoy the tastings from many local restaurants, all to benefit Feedmore and to promote local businesses.

Feedmore is Central Virginia's hunger-relief leader made up of the Central Virginia Food Bank, Meals on Wheels Serving Central Virginia and the Community Kitchen. Working together to efficiently and effectively fight hunger to enhance lives in our community, FeedMore's programs provide hunger relief to our region’s most vulnerable populations, particularly children, families and seniors." - feedmore.com

In an effort to get people sample all the different restaurants participating, all samples are $3.00.  And I'll be the first to tell you, they aren't just mini sample and the food is outstanding! Below is my own sampling of the event, it was the first year I was able to attend and the weather was perfect!!  I'll definitely be back next year!!

Eye Candy....

I've been spending a lot of time the past several months learning lighting and photographing people.  Sorry that I haven't kept you up to date on my photo journey, I promise to do a better job, as I'm still actively involved.  Soon with releases, I'll be able to post some of shots.  In the meantime, here is a little eye candy that I caught last weekend while doing a photo walk with a friend in our city.

Kansas Red....

Kansas Red

I was photographing a leadership meeting last week and these shoes kept catching my eye.  They reminded me of Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. I finally decided towards the end to capture them in a photo....

I Present to You...Forks!

The days had better get longer soon, as I'm going a little stir crazy trying to find things to photograph indoors or near the house. Tonight we are seeing our first snow, so hopefully it will hang around long enough to capture something neat to remember this winter by.  In the meantime I present to you "forks".

Lesson Learned:
Photography is all about capturing the light.
